THE SEMINARS
INTRODUCTION TO CINEMATIC LIGHTING - in New York City
DATE : March 31, 2012  -  One Day Intensive 1:00 PM 5:00 PM
Location : 440 Studios

This introductory Lighting Workshop is designed for the beginner filmmaker looking to learn the fundamentals of film lighting.  Along with basic hands-on instruction, students will be demonstrated some of the tools that are used on film productions. Grip gear, Gaffing techniques, and actual lighting will take place throughout the workshop.  Be prepared to handle equipment. Students participating in this workshop should bring work gloves to the session.  No open toed shoes please!

Instructor:  Misael Sanchez

Misael Sanchez – Cinematographer and Founder of the IFI is a New York based filmmaker whose primary work is comprised of Documentaries and Independent film projects relating to the urban city experience.  He began his career while enrolled at New York University’s Film Program where he graduated with a focus on Cinematography and Producing. Misael is the Founder and Director of the International Film Institute of New York. He joined the Columbia University Graduate Film program in 1995, where he was Director of Instruction & Cinematography concentration program coordinator for 15 years.  As Faculty at Sarah Lawrence College he teaches Cinematography at the undergraduate Film/New Media program. He works as a professional Director of Photography and Producer on a variety of projects ranging from Television Documentaries, Short Films, and Music Videos.

This course will cover:
Breakdown of different types of lighting options
Hard Light / Soft light / Bounced Light
Three point Lighting and beyond
Lighting for Depth / Separation
Using Grip Equipment
Basic Film Set language
