Mission Statement

The Kimball Art Center is the heart of Park City's historic and vibrant arts community. We are a non-profit center for the arts, committed to engaging individuals of all ages in diverse and inspiring experiences through education, exhibitions and events.

History

Much like Park City itself, the only constant for the Kimball Art Center in its history is its location. As the Park City community has evolved through the years, the Kimball has mirrored its change, evolving into a world class community art center and the city’s cultural hub.

In 1976, arts enthusiast Bill Kimball – along with support from members of the Park City community – transformed the dilapidated garage into a non-profit community center for the visual arts. Since that time, the Kimball has served art lovers in the Park City area by providing top quality exhibitions and events. Today the Kimball stands at the literal center of a year-round resort community which plays host to world-class events.

In 2001 the Kimball enjoyed an extensive face-lift and refurbishing thanks to General Motors, who leased the building for its hospitality program for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. Since the Olympics, the Kimball has offered itself up as an A-list facility for special events of every scale imaginable.

Today the Kimball hosts a variety of activities to serve both artists and art enthusiasts in the Park City area. The Kimball showcases a variety of exhibitions ranging from national exhibitions of historical significance to shows featuring up and coming local artists. The Kimball also offers a full lineup of workshops and classes to educate artists of all ages in a wide range of mediums. Additionally, the Kimball hosts the Park City Kimball Arts Festival – Utah’s original, longest running visual arts festival – attracting over 40,000 people from around the country. The Kimball Art Center offers something for art lovers of all ages. Stop in and visit us, and discover for yourself the new Kimball and its wonders inside and out!

At Sarah Lawrence College our mission is to graduate world citizens who are diverse in every definition of the word, who take intellectual and creative risks, who cross disciplinary boundaries, and who are able to sustain exceptional academic discipline within a framework of humanistic values and concern for community. Our unique educational practices provide our students with the opportunity to study intensively in small classes, to engage in independent research, and to spend unparalleled amounts of time working one-on-one with an exceptional faculty of scholars and artists, creating a tailored academic program of students' own design. Our goal is to instill a lifelong intellectual curiosity and nimbleness, as well as the confidence and entrepreneurial spirit to embrace a broad range of personal, professional and creative pursuits. We thus prepare students to think and act independently so that they will tackle the problems of, and thrive in, a complex and rapidly evolving world.

For creative and intellectually motivated students who want to make their mark on the world, Sarah Lawrence offers a unique approach to learning and teaching designed to produce capable, confident, creative 21st Century citizens with the imagination, drive and skills to make a difference in their own and others' lives.

Sarah Lawrence's approach inculcates the entrepreneurial habits of exploration, risk-taking and invention that graduates will need to find solutions for which no models currently exist. A Sarah Lawrence education imparts the skills—as well as the courage—to think both creatively and analytically; work both independently and collaboratively, and act with both confidence and sensitivity in a complex and ever-evolving world.
